Four Foresters Earn All-Great Lakes Region Honors
Jeziorny and Closson named to First Team

LAKE FOREST, IL - Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its 2006 All-Great Lakes Region Teams Monday (May 8) and four Lake Forest College players made the list. Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) and Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) were named to the First Team and Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) and Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) were Second Team selections.

Jeziorny was one of three At-Large selections on the First Team. The junior catcher leads the team with 11 doubles and ranks among the squad’s top three with a .406 batting average, 41 base hits, six home runs, 26 runs batted in, a .713 slugging percentage, and a .445 on base percentage.

Closson, a pitcher/first baseman listed as a utility player, owns a .263 batting average and 3.13 earned run average. She is 8-5 with a team-high 77 strikeouts in 78.1 innings and completed 11 of her 13 starts with one shutout. She has also drawn a team-high 15 walks and has both scored and driven in 15 runs this year.

Wegner, the team’s shortstop and leading hitter with a .433 batting average, also leads the Foresters with 32 runs scored, a .742 slugging percentage, and 15 stolen bases. She is also second on the squad with 42 base hits, 10 doubles, and six home runs. The senior became the Foresters’ all-time leader in runs scored (114) last weekend.

Watts plays center field and is batting .416 on the season. The junior set single-season school records with 52 base hits and 37 runs batted in and also leads the team with 77 total bases. In addition, she ranks among the squad’s top three with 31 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and nine doubles. With 99 RBI in her career, Watts is just one shy of the program’s all-time leader.

The Midwest Conference Champion Foresters are 24-13 on the season and will begin competing in the NCAA Regional Tournament at Augustana College on Thursday (May 11).
