LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was named Forester Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row on Thursday (May 8) after helping lead her team to the Midwest Conference Championship Game the previous weekend (May 3-4).

Rainey began the weekend with three base hits in as many at-bats in Lake Forest’s 6-4 loss to Ripon College in the first round of the double-elimination event. Two of her hits were doubles and she also walked once in the contest. The sophomore was 3-for-4 with another double, two runs scored, and three RBI in the team’s second game of the day, an 11-6 victory over Monmouth College.

She continued to hit the ball well on Sunday, registering three more base hits, including another double, in the Foresters’ 16-0 five-inning triumph over St. Norbert College in the morning. She scored three runs and drove in a pair in the game. Rainey then singled, scored a run, and drew a pair of walks in a 4-0 victory over Ripon College in the early afternoon. She closed out the weekend with one of the team’s two base hits in a 7-1 loss to Ripon in the title game.

Rainey batted .733 (11-for-15) in the tournament with four doubles, eight runs scored, five RBI, and a 1.000 slugging percentage. With three walks, she reached base safely in 14 of 18 plate appearances for a .778 on-base percentage. The shortstop also successfully handled 22 of 23 plays in the field.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. In addition to earning the award a week ago, Rainey also claimed it once in January for her performance as a basketball player.
