Freshman ranks among the leaders in the MWC

Emily Watts
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College women’s swimmer Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) was named Forester Athlete of the Week Thursday (December 11) for her performance at the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at Carthage College the previous weekend (December 5-6).

Watts, a freshman, advanced to the highly-competitive meet’s consolation finals in three of her four individual events. On Friday she placed 15th in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:12.93 and 13th in the 100-freestyle in exactly 56 seconds. The next day she finished 26th in the preliminaries of the 200-freestyle (2:09.50) before winning the consolation final (11th place) in the 50-freestyle with a time of 25.82 seconds. She also swam in each of the meet’s five relays.

Watts’ times in her top three events rank among the best in the Midwest Conference so far this season. She now owns the second-fastest mark in the 50- and 100-freestyle and the fourth-best time in the 100-breaststroke.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
