Foresters Compete at Carthage’s TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic
Michael Ojdana breaks own school record in 500-freestyle

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Lake Forest College swimming teams competed at Carthage College over the weekend (December 1-2) at the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic. The Forester women placed eighth in the event while the men were seventh.

Junior Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) led the men’s team with four top-six finishes. He was sixth in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:40.69, breaking his own school record. He was also sixth in the 100-freestyle (47.81), fourth in the 200-freestyle (1:44.38), and sixth in the 1650-freestyle (16:40.97).

Senior Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) placed among the top nine in each of her four events. She was fourth in the 200-individual medley (2:15.67), ninth in the 200-backstroke (2:21.24), second in the 400-individual medley (4:46.81), and fifth in the 200-breaststroke (2:31.82).

Sophomore Dustin Koch (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) was the only other Forester to finish in the top 10 in an event. He was ninth in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:02.91. He also placed 11th in the 100-butterfly and 13th in the 100-breaststroke.

Freshman Philip Miatkowski (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) placed among the top 20 in the 200-individual medley (14th), 100-breaststroke (19th), and 200-breaststroke (16th). Freshman Josh D’Angelo (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) also had three top-20 performances, placing 17th in the 100-freestyle, 15th in the 200-freestyle, and 20th in the 50-frestyle. Derek Drayer (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) was 15th in the 100-breaststroke and 17th in the 100-butterfly. Nick Primrose (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield) finished 17th in the 200-backstroke and 16th in the 100-backstroke. Senior Jonathan D’Angelo (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor) was 12th in the 200-butterfly and 14th in the 100-butterfly. Finally, senior Anne Haas (South Berwick, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored the second-highest point total for the Forester women by placing 18th in the 500-freestyle and 15th in the 1650-freestyle.

It was the final meet of the fall semester for Lake Forest. After returning from their training trip in early January, the Foresters will compete at the Wheaton Quadrangular on Saturday, January 13.
