The top 20 in most events (top 30 in the 50- and 100-freestyle) advance to the evening's finals - 10 in each heat. Sophomore Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) placed seventh in the 100-backstroke and ninth in the 200-backstroke. His time of 54.61 seconds in the 100 is the fastest by a Midwest Conference swimmer so far this season and his 2:01.65 in the 200 ranks second. Mackin also finished 18th in the 200-freestyle (1:51.07). Junior Derek Atchley (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) was the only other Forester male to earn points in an individual event when he placed 20th in the 200-breaststroke (2:39.91). Fellow junior Taylor Wright (Williams, Calif./Williams) was 16th in the preliminaries of the 50-freestyle in 22.45 seconds, the fastest time in the conference so far this season, but was disqualified in the finals. The Forester women were led by Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community), who placed 11th in the 50-freestyle (25.92 seconds), 13th in the 100-freestyle (56.00), and 15th in the 100-breaststroke (1:12.93). Her freestyle times rank second in the conference and the 100-breaststroke time is currently fourth. Freshman Claire Perrott (Northfield, Minn./Colegio San Isidro de Heredia) finished 19th in the 100-butterfly (1:08.69), 20th in the 1650-freestyle (20:26.26), and 25th in the 100-freestyle (59.00). Sophomore Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina) placed 14th in the 1650-freestyle with the second-best time (19:36.93) in the conference this season and 19th in the 400-individual medley (5:13.68). Finally, sophomore Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) placed 12th in the 200-breaststroke in 2:42.18. Forester men and women combined to post 59 season-best performance at the meet. It was Lake Forest's final meet of the fall semester. The team will be in action again on Saturday, January 17, at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope College. The meet, which will also include Wheaton College and Kalamazoo College, will begin at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Overall Results: Women | Men
