Gracious Hosts to Carroll and IIT
The Forester women won eight of the thirteen events and scored 105 points in the meet, compared to Carroll's 80 and IIT's 33. Senior Karie Schuenke's (Quincy, IL) 2:19.87 in the 200m freestyle and 1:14.03 in the 100m butterfly gave her a couple of first-place finishes and her time of 1:13.71 in the 100m backstroke was good for second. Junior Jie Li (Gurnee, IL) also won two individual events, the 50m freestyle (29.18) and the 100m backstroke (1:11.15) to go with her leadoff leg on the winning 200m medley relay team (2:11.85). Other individual event winners included sophomores Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL) in the 800m freestyle, Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO) in the 200m individual medley and Dana Tate (Appleton, WI) in the 1-meter diving. On the men's side, the Foresters won seven events en route to a 103-76-55 victory over IIT and Carroll, respectively. Sophomore Anthony Laurino (Wichita, KS) was the best distance swimmer in the meet, as evidenced by his first-place finish in both the 800m (9:09.25) and 400m (4:34.35) freestyle events. Joe Isaacs (Shorewood, MN) continued his strong freshman season by winning the 100m butterfly (1:02.38) and the 100m breaststroke (1:13.69) and swimming the anchor leg of the victorious 200m medley relay (1:57.20). There were two other Foresters to win an individual event. Junior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ) reached the wall first in the 200m freestyle (2:08.15) and freshman Brady Lowdermilk (Parker, CO) swam the fastest 100m backstroke (1:02.88) at the meet. The team will embark on its annual winter training trip on January 1st and will not return from Phoenix, AZ until January 10th. Its first meet of the second semester will be the Wheaton College Quadrangular on January 13th, beginning at 12:00 PM.
