Michael Mackin Named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week
Sophomore ranks among the MWC leaders in several events

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College swimmer Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick)

was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday (December 9) for his performance in the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at Carthage College the previous weekend (December 5-6).

Mackin, a sophomore, reached the 10-person final in a pair of events and the consolation final in another. He placed seventh at the highly-competitive meet in the 100-backstroke in 54.61 seconds, the fastest time in the Midwest Conference so far this season. He also completed the 200-backstroke in 2:01.65, the second-best mark in the league, and placed ninth. In addition, Mackin was 18th in the 200-freestyle (1:51.07), finished the 200-IM in 2:07.59, and led off the 400-freestyle relay in 49.90 seconds. Both freestyle times rank among the top five in the league.

Mackin owns the Foresters’ best time this season in the 100- and 200-freestyle, 100- and 200-backstroke, 100-butterfly, and 200-IM.

Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league’s sports information
directors. Mackin also earned the award for his performance at the same meet last season.
