APPLETON, WI - The Forester swimming & diving teams competed in the Midwest Conference Championship Meet at Lawrence University over the weekend (February 10-12). Lake Forest’s women placed second out of nine teams and the men finished third out of eight. Grinnell College won both competitions and Lawrence’s men were second and women third.

Sophomore Kendall Swett (Akron, OH/Hawken) was named MWC Female Diver of the Year after winning both the 1-meter (412.30 points) and 3-meter (512.60) events with record-breaking scores. Both marks are now the highest in the history of Boldt Natatorium and the 3-meter score is the highest ever posted by diver in the conference. That total is also nearly 60 points higher than the top score in the nation heading into the weekend. Classmate Maggie Rezac (Omaha, NE/Marian), last season’s MWC Female Diver of the Year, finished second in both events and her score of 476.30 off the 3-meter board would also have been enough to break the league record.

Junior Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie) earned MWC Female Swimmer of the Year for the third time in as many seasons after claiming first place in the 200-individual medley (2:12.96), 400-individual medley (4:42.53), and 200-breaststroke (2:29.07). She has now won each of her nine individual events at the conference meet in her career.

Lake Forest can also claim to have the best distance swimmers in the conference after sophomores Mia Hable (Hudson, OH/Hudson) and Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) each touched the wall first in both the 500- and 1650-freestyle events. Hable’s time of 5:18.04 in Friday’s 500 won by just .35 seconds while Ojdana bested the field by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 4:41.82. On Sunday Hable posted a 21-second victory in the 1650 with a time of 18:19.03 while Ojdana’s 16:18.24 was more than 44 seconds faster than second place. He was also the runner-up in the 200-freestyle and his times in the 1650 and 200 were good enough to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA Championship Meet. Hable added a fourth-place finish in the 200-freestyle.

Freshman Jenna Sasanfar (Tonka Bay, MN/Minnetonka), sophomore Lauren Petersen (Arvada, CO/J.K. Mullen), and junior Derek Drayer (Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado) each reached the final in all three of their events. Sasanfar placed sixth in the 200-freestyle, third in the 100-backstroke, and second in the 200-backstroke. Petersen finished fifth in the 200-IM and third in both the 100- and 200-breaststroke. Drayer was sixth in both the 200-IM and 100-breaststroke and fourth in the 100-freestyle.

Lake Forest will conclude the regular season with a dual meet at Wheaton College on Wednesday (February 15). The competition will begin at 5:00 p.m.
