LAKE FOREST, IL - Several outstanding performances highlighted the efforts of the Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet in Grinnell, Iowa, over the weekend (February 11-13). The Forester women scored 399 points to finish second and the men took third with 317 points. Host Grinnell College captured both the men's and women's championships.

For the second consecutive season Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie) won all three of her individual races and earned Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Year honors. The sophomore swept the 200- (2:12.18) and 400-yard (4:40.86) individual medleys and clocked a 2:28.54 to take the 200 breaststroke. Bueter scored 72.5 points to lead the Forester women.

Freshman Maggie Rezac (Omaha, NE/Marian) was named Midwest Conference Diver of the Year after she claimed the championship in the 3-meter competition (457.50 points) and was runner-up in the 1-meter event. Classmate Kendall Swett (Akron, OH/Hawken) was right behind her, taking the championship on the 1-meter board (387.80) and third place on the 3-meter. It marked the first time since 1991 that Lake Forest divers captured both the 1M and 3M championships in the same year.

Other top scorers for the women's team were freshman Mia Hable (Hudson, OH/Hudson) and junior Erin Colwell (Northfield, MN/Northfield), who tallied 57.5 and 52.5 points, respectively. For Hable the longer the race, the better the result. She won her first conference title in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:25.12), was second in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free. Colwell was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly, fourth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 backstroke.

Four Forester men scored at least 50 points apiece as the squad finished just 14 points behind runner-up Lawrence University. Leading the way with 68 points was freshman Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier), who was victorious in the 200 (1:43.98) and 500 (4:47.05) freestyles and third in the 100 free. Nicholas Primrose (Mayfield Heights, OH/Mayfield), another freshman, placed third in the 100 backstroke, fourth in the 200 back and fifth in the 50 free.

Aaron Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) was also top-six in all three of his individual events and improved one spot over his 2004 finish in each of the two races he repeated. The junior captain took fourth in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 400-yard individual medley and sixth in the 200 IM. Sophomore Derek Drayer (Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado) posted fifth place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and was seventh in the 200 IM.

A partial Lake Forest squad will close out the regular season at the Wheaton College Invite Friday and Saturday (February 18-19) with the primary goal of posting national meet qualifying times.
