EDGELL, SCHUENKE, ESTES NAMED MWC SWIMMERS OF THE YEAR

Lake Forest College athletes swept the 2000 Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Year awards, as announced at the conclusion of the MWC Championship Meet. Senior Rob Edgell (Alsager, England) won the male award, while junior Karie Schuenke (Quincy, IL) and sophomore Randi Estes (LaBelle, FL) shared the female honor.

The award was Edgell's third of his career. He was also honored as the Conference's top swimmer in 1997 and 1998. At this year's MWC Championships, Edgell won four events, including all three relay events he entered. He won this year's 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, and 400 medley relay, and finished his career a perfect 12 for 12 in individual events at the conference meet.

Schuenke and Estes each won six events (three individual and three relays) at the MWC meet, the highest total of any competitor at the meet.  Schuenke won the 100 back, 200 back, and 400 IM, while Estes was victorious in the 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 IM. The pair was the backbone for Lake Forest's conference championship winning 400 free, 800 free, and 400 medley relays.
