Lake Forest junior Dana Tate (Appleton, WI/Appleton East) started the Foresters off on the right foot by winning the first event of the meet, the 1-meter diving competition, with a total score of 346.70. After the Foresters finished sixth in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, senior Randi Estes (LaBelle, FL/Riverdale) won the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 5:14.60. Junior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) and sophomore Celeste Plautz (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove South) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, behind Estes. Junior Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO/Ft. Collins) took sixth place in the 200-yard individual medley and freshman Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep) became the second Lake Forest swimmer to touch the wall first when she won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.24 seconds. The men's 200-yard medley relay finished in third place, as did junior Brandon Johnson (Phoenix, AZ/Brophy) in the first individual event, the 500-yard freestyle. Placing just ahead of Johnson was senior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon), whose time of 4:48.83 was just a tenth-of-a-second slower than his own school record time. Junior Anthony Laurino (Wichita, KS/Wichita East) finished sixth. Sophomores Aaron Lawlor (Vernon Hills, IL/Libertyville) and Jeremy Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) placed seventh and eighth, respectively in the 200-yard individual medley and the first Forester male to win an event this year was junior Eric Boarini (Wadsworth, IL/Carmel), who defended his title in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.70. Sophomore Joe Isaacs (Shorewood, MN/Breck) finished eighth in the meet's shortest event. Both 400-yard medley relay teams finished in third place to close out the first day of competition. Prelims on Saturday will begin at 10:00 AM. The women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter diving competition will start approximately an hour after the completion of prelims.
