Forester Women Second, Men Third at MWC Championship Meet
Bueter named Swimmer of the Year; Woods and Lowdermilk combine for six victories

(Clockwise) Chelsea Bueter, Emily Woods, Brady Lowdermilk and Jeremy Koop had ten top-three finishes between them.
APPLETON, WI - Led by 2003-2004 Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Year Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie), Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep) and Brady Lowdermilk (Parker, CO/Regis), the Lake Forest College women's and men's swimming and diving teams placed second and third, respectively, at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet Friday through Sunday (February 13-15). The Forester women scored 633 points to finish behind Grinnell College, while the men tallied 440 points and were outscored by Grinnell and Lawrence University.

Bueter, a first-year swimmer, claimed three individual championships and two as a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams, scoring 97 points to lead all competitors. She established a new pool record in the 400-Individual Medley (4:39.58), new conference and school records in the 200-Individual Medley (2:10.88), and all three in the 200-Breaststroke (2:23.99). Each of those times make the national B-cut and her 200-Breaststroke time is just two-tenths of a second from the A-cut.

Woods, a junior, also recorded national B-cut qualifying times to win the 100-Butterfly (59.70) and 200-Butterfly (2:12.98). The 59.70 matched her career best and is the second fastest time in Lake Forest College history. The team's co-captain earned two more championships swimming the third leg of the 200 and 400 medley relays, raising the total for her career to nine. She added a third in the 50-Freestyle (25.37) and a second in the 200 freestyle relay to score 84.5 points.

A five-time Midwest Conference champion entering the meet, Lowdermilk captured two more individual championships and led the men in scoring with 89 points. He won the 200-Butterfly in 2:00.46 and took the 200-Backstroke with a career-best time of 1:57.93, the fourth fastest in school history. The senior co-captain was also second in the 100-Backstroke (54.78) and he swam a leg for all four of the third-place relay teams.

Additional significant contributions to the women's runner-up finish were made by three sophomores, each of whom registered at least one top-three finish and scored 41 points or more in individual events. Marie Pool (Redding, CA/Central Valley) added two relay victories to her second and fourth place efforts, respectively, in the 50- (25.22) and 100-Freestyle (55.86) events.

Erin Colwell (Northfield, MN/Northfield) won her first conference championship in the 200 medley relay and placed third in both the 100- (1:02.29) and 200-Butterfly (2:17.21).

All 48 of Genia Lindsey's (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) points came in individual events, as she took second in the 200-Breaststroke, third in the 400-IM (4:46.74) and fourth in the 200-IM (2:18.35). Her breaststroke time of 2:29.46 is the fourth fastest ever for a Forester.

A small Lake Forest men's squad posted three top-three finishes in addition to Lowdermilk's. Senior Aaron Lawlor (Vernon Hills, IL/Libertyville) was third in the 100- (55.69) and 200-Butterfly (2:03.93) and classmate Jeremy Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) took the same spot in the 200-Breaststroke (2:15.69). They also scored at least 30 points apiece as part of four relay teams.

It was an outstanding meet for Koop, who also garnered fifth in the 100-Breaststroke (1:02.36) and seventh in the 200-Individual Medley (2:04.14). The team co-captain registered career-best times in all three of his individual events.

Head Coach Alec Webster is pleased with his teams' efforts and results. "Both teams performed extremely well in our biggest meet of the year and I am so proud," he said. "Five national cuts and numerous career-best times prove that we were prepared and focused."

Webster is also optimistic about the women's chances at the NCAA Championship Meet in St. Louis March 11-13. "We can't wait to get there. I believe we'll do well and it will be a motivating factor for us to get a taste of national meet excitement."

Lake Forest will take to the water again February 20-21 at the Midwest Collegiate Invitational hosted by Wheaton College. A partial squad will compete in the meet, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
