February 18, 2010 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Kelsey Hoeper Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Hoeper, a freshman, staked her claim as the fastest swimmer in program history by leading off the 200-freestyle relay, the first event of Friday’s finals, in a school record 50-free time of 24.64 seconds. The Foresters won and set a program record with a time of 1:39.24. Later she claimed the individual 50-freestyle title in 24.89 seconds. Lake Forest placed second in the 400-medley relay to finish off the night and Hoeper anchored with a 100-freestyle split of 53.22 seconds. Hoeper was the runner-up in Saturday’s 200-freestyle with a time of 1:59.94. She swam that distance again while leading off the victorious 800-freestyle relay to end the day. Finally, on Sunday, Hoeper claimed her second individual title of the weekend by completing the 100-freestlye in 54.19 seconds, slightly slower than the 53.87 she posted in the prelims and the 53.13 she swam on the third leg of the meet-closing 400-freestyle relay. Lake Forest set a conference record in the relay with a time of 3:36.99. Hoeper set the 100-freestyle school record of 53.79 seconds earlier in the season.
