Michael Ojdana Sets Lake Forest Record at Midwest Invitational
Forester swimmers close out regular season

Michael Ojdana recorded the school's fastest 1000-yard time.
WHEATON, IL - A small group of Lake Forest College swimmers competed at the Midwest Invitational at Wheaton College over the weekend (February 18-19) with a focus on individual times. There were several notable performances by the Foresters as the women finished seventh of eleven teams and the men tenth of twelve.

Freshman Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) was victorious in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:58.46) and along the way he set a Lake Forest College record. His 1000-yard split was 10:00.92, almost six seconds faster than the old 1000 freestyle record set by Joe Zemaitis '02 at the same meet in 2000. Ojdana was also runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.70).

The "last chance" meet gave sophomore Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie) one more opportunity to qualify for a return to the national meet, where she earned All-America honors last year. Though she was unsuccessful in that attempt, Bueter claimed at least one victory for the ninth time in ten meets this season. She won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.75.

Sophomore Alexandra Hales (New Iberia, LA/Episcopal School) and junior Erin Colwell (Northfield, MN/Northfield) each posted a third-place finish for the Foresters. Hales swam a career-best time of 26.30 in the 50-yard freestyle to earn hers, while Colwell got hers in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.64).

Lake Forest still has a good chance to send competitors to the national meet. Head Coach Alec Webster will find out Thursday (February 24) if first-year divers Maggie Rezac (Omaha, NE/Marian) and Kendall Swett (Akron, OH/Hawken) qualified based on their performances throughout the year. Each diver posted excellent scores all season and won one Midwest Conference championship. Swett established a new school record in the 3-meter event (6 dives). The women's 2005 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 10-12 at Hope College in Holland, MI.
