Forester Women Win, Men Fall in Final Dual Meet of the Season

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams hosted Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday. The Forester women prevailed 116-72 while the men fell 121-84. It was the final dual meet of the season for both squads.

Senior Maggie Rezac (Omaha, Neb./Marian) celebrated the final home meet of her career by posting the finest dual meet diving performance in team history. Her score of 313.13 points off the 1-meter board broke the previous school record of 285.35 and is higher than any diver in the nation had scored this season. She shattered her own team record of 297.85 points off the 3-meter board with a score of 319.73, better than all but one performance in the country prior to the weekend.

Freshman Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina) also won a pair of individual events. She placed first in the 800-meter freestyle in 10:51.09 and the 400-meter freestyle in 5:05.79 and led off for the victorious 200-meter freestyle relay (2:09.81). Other first-place finishes were turned in by freshman Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) in the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.96) and junior Jenna Sasanfar (Tonka Bay, Minn./Minnetonka) in the 100-backstroke (1:17.06).

On the men’s side, freshman Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) prevailed in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:02.76 and led off on the winning 200-meter medley relay team (1:57.61). Senior Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle in 1:59.46, classmate Nick Primrose (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield) finished first in the 50-meter freestyle in 25.38 seconds, and Stephen Crabbe (Tucson, Ariz./University), another senior, won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:36.89.

The next meet on the Foresters’ schedule is the Midwest Conference Championship Meet February 15-17 at Lawrence University. The Lake Forest men placed third in the league and the women fifth in 2007.
