Mike Mackin Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Junior closed out dramatic victory over Illinois Tech

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College swimmer Mike Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (February 4) after his performance in a dramatic 124-111 victory over visiting Illinois Institute of Technology the previous Saturday (January 30).

Mackin, a junior, began the day by placing third in the 200-meter freestyle. Later in the meet, with the Foresters nursing a 73-72 lead, he won the 100-meter backstroke to help build a little cushion in the team standings.

Lake Forest still needed a victory in the final event, the 200-meter freestyle relay, to hold on for the team triumph. Mackin anchored the relay and out-touched his Illinois Tech counterpart by just .11 seconds. The Forester win snapped a six-year losing streak to the Scarlet Hawks.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
