to Show Improvement at Wheaton Quadrangular
Highlighting the women's results was junior Randi Estes (LaBelle, FL), who won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.43 and was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:14.82. Both times were season-bests for Estes, who also swam a leg on the second-place 400-yard medley relay whose time of 4:14.29 was also a season-best. Joining Estes on the relay were junior Jie Li (Gurnee, IL), who also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.40 sec.) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.86); senior Karie Schuenke (Quincy, IL) and sophomore Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO), who swam season-bests in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.64) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.34). On the men's side, Anthony Laurino (Wichita, KS) continued his fantastic sophomore year with season-best times in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:25.24) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.04). Junior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ) swam a pair of individual season-bests as well, with a 200-yard freestyle time of 1:53.84 and a clocking of 5:04.24 in the 500-yard freestyle. Senior Steve Williams (Leawood, KS) also enjoyed a successful meet as he posted a season-best 2:23.25 in the 200-yard breaststroke and, along with Zemaitis, swam a leg on the 400-yard medley relay who finished in 3:50.33, also a season-best. After two weekends off from competiton, the swimmers and divers will host Calvin College on Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00 PM.
