Foresters Take on Stiff Competition at Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams each placed fourth in the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope College on Saturday (January 17). Hope won the women's competition and placed second on the men's side. Kalamazoo College's men placed first and the women were third. Wheaton College was the runner-up in the women's standings and third in the men's.

The top finisher for Lake Forest was sophomore Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina), who placed third in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:24.41, more than eight seconds faster than she swam the same event earlier in the season. Carpenter was also seventh in the 500-freestyle in 5:37.07. Freshman Claire Perrott (Northfield, Minn./Colegio San Isidro de Heredia) finished among the top eight in the same two events, placing sixth in the 1000 (11:50.62) and eighth in the 500 (5:38.96).

Other top-eight performances for the Forester women included freshman Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) finishing fifth in the 50 freestyle in 26.15 seconds and sophomore Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) placing sixth in the 200-breaststroke in 2:43.06.

On the men's side junior Taylor Wright (Williams, Calif./Williams) placed sixth in the 50-freestyle in 23.16 seconds and sophomore Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) claimed the same place in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:07.39.

It was Lake Forest's first meet of the second semester. The team's final home meet of the season will be next Saturday (January 24) against Carroll University and Lawrence University.
