Foresters Compete in Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope
Six swimmers post top-eight finishes

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Lake Forest College swim teams both placed fourth at Hope College in the annual Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular on Saturday (January 19). The hosts won both the men’s and women’s competition, Wheaton College placed second, and Kalamazoo College finished third.

Forester Senior Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) finished among the top four in both of his individual events. He was the runner-up in the 200-freestyle in 1:48.63 and placed fourth in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:01.88. Freshman Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) had the men’s team’s next-highest placing with his sixth-place finish in the 200-backstroke (2:05.24). He was also ninth in the 200-individual medley in 2:07.64. Sophomore David Ristau (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) finished seventh in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 13:46.22.

Three Lake Forest women also finished among the top eight in an event, led by freshman Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina), who was fifth in the 1000-freestyle in 11:35.62 and seventh in the 500-freestyle in 5:43.73. Classmate Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) was seventh in the 50-freestyle with a time of 26.89 and sophomore Nicole Larson (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) was eighth in the 1000-freestyle in 13:18.43.

With no diving competition at the meet, senior Maggie Rezac (Omaha, Neb./Marian) instead attended the University of Chicago Invitational. She placed first in the 1-meter competition with a score of 387.50 and won the 3-meter event with 449.20 points, easily exceeding the national meet qualifying standard of 410.

The Foresters will travel to Lawrence University for a dual meet next Saturday (January 26) at 10:00 a.m. The team’s final home meet of the season will be the following Saturday (February 2) against Illinois Institute of Technology and will begin at 11:00 a.m.
