Lake Forest Men Finish First, Women Third at Lawrence Invite
Foresters win 11 of 26 events

APPLETON, Wis. - The Forester men’s swimming & diving team finished first out of four teams at Saturday’s (January 26) Lawrence University Invite. Lake Forest’s women’s team placed third out of five schools behind the hosts and Ripon College.

Forester men touched the wall first in eight of 13 events, including all three relay races. Freshman Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) and seniors R.J. DeBo (Savage, Minn./Burnsville), Stephen Crabbe (Tucson, Ariz./University), and Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) posted a winning time of 1:43.93 in the meet-opening 200-medley relay. Later in the day DeBo was joined by senior Nick Primrose (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield), junior Randy McGregor (Orlando, Fla./The Gunnery), and sophomore Taylor Wright (Williams, Calif./Williams) on the victorious 200-freestyle relay, which finished in 1:36.04. Lake Forest closed out the meet with Primrose, Mackin, Crabbe, and Ojdana prevailing in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:22.45, more than 10 seconds ahead of second place.

Individually, Ojdana and Crabbe finished first and second, respectively, in the 200-freestyle with times of 1:51.10 and 1:57.76. Wright was also fifth in that event in 2:04.83. The next men’s event was the 200-individual medley, where DeBo placed fifth in 2:17.70. Primrose won the 50-freestyle in 22.66 seconds and Mackin was third in 23.16. Mackin then won the 100-butterfly in 56.31 seconds with DeBo placing second in 59.81 and Crabbe fifth in 1:01.53. Ojdana posted his second individual win of the day in the 100-freestyle in 49.65 seconds and Primrose was second in 51.12. Crabbe registered his second runner-up performance of the day in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:17.72. Mackin won his second event of the meet with a time of 55.32 seconds in the 100-backtroke and Primrose was third in 59.81. DeBo and sophomore Derek Atchley (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100-breaststroke in 1:10.76 and 1:12.30. The final individual event was the 1000-freestyle, where Ojdana was seco
nd in 10:30.13 and Stenger sixth in 12:39.53.

Victories on the women’s side were posted by freshman Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) in the two shortest races of the meet. She won the 50-freestyle in 26.40 seconds and the 100-freestyle in 57.42. She was also sixth in the 100-breaststroke in 1:20.32. Senior Maggie Rezac (Omaha, Neb./Marian) took home the squad’s other first-place finish in the 1-meter diving competition with 468.90 points, breaking the previous pool record and easily surpassing the NCAA Division III national meet qualifying standard of 395. Freshman Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina) was the runner-up in the 500-freestyle (5:36.73) and 1000-freestyle 11:32.86 and placed third in the 200-freestyle (2:07.56). Finally, seventh-place finishes were turned in by senior Jenna Sasanfar (Tonka Bay, Minn./Minnetonka) in the 100-freestyle (1:01.51) and 100-backstroke (1:09.00) and by sophomore Ashley DeBo (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) in the 1000-freestyle (12:42.54).

Lake Forest will host Illinois Institute of Technology next Saturday (February 2) at 11:00 a.m. in the Foresters’ final dual meet of the season.
