Jie Li is the first Forester female swimmer to win an event at the national meet.
BUFFALO, NY - Although there was only one Forester swimmer at the meet, the Lake Forest College women's swimming & diving team finished 22nd at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet this weekend (March 8-10th) with 35 points. The meet was hosted by the State University of New York Athletic Conference and held in the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center located at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York. Denison College won the team competition with 588 points. Kenyon College, the winner each of the past 17 years, finished second with 572 and Williams College was third with 356.

Junior Jie Li (Gurnee, IL), the Foresters' lone representative in the championship, won the 100-yard backstroke on Friday (March 9th) and finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday (March 10th). Her time of 56.73 in the 100-yard backstroke was just six one-hundredths of a second slower than the national meet record.

Li became the first female swimmer in school history to win an event at the national meet. Lake Forest's Chris Carlo ('80) and Lynn Adami ('83) won national titles in diving in 1980 and 1982, respectively. Li is the 27th Forester female swimmer or diver to earn All-American honors and the first since Kim Makar, who did it as a senior in 1998. The last Forester male to win an event at the national meet was Daniel Tarkowski ('95) in 1994.
