SCHUENKE SWIMS THREE EVENTS AT NATIONALS
     Lake Forest’s Karie Schuenke, a sophomore from Quincy, IL, competed in three events at the 1999 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the College of Wooster at the University of Miami (Ohio).  Schuenke, who three weeks prior was the only competitor, male or female, at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet to win seven events, competed in the 200 IM on Thursday, 100 backstroke on Friday, and 200 backstroke on Saturday.
     Schuenke finished 41st (out of 47 entrants) in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.77 (:29.44, 1:02.47, 1:44.89, 2:16.77).  The winner swam 2:06.26.  In the 100 backstroke, Schuenke recorded her best finish at the meet with a 27th place showing and a time of 1:01.11 (:29.61, 1:01.11).  Thirty-five swimmers competed with the winner finishing in :57.32.  On Saturday in the 200 backstroke, Schuenke swam a 2:13.00 (:30.25, 1:08.86, 1:37.67, 2:13.00) to finish 28th (out of 31).  The winner swam the 200 back in 2:03.36.
