Continue Early-Season Success With Win at Carthage
Both men and women now 2-0
on the season
KENOSHA, WI - The Lake Forest
College swimmers (diving was not contested) went just north of the Illinois-Wisconsin
border to Carthage College and notched their second victory in as many
meets for both the men's and women's teams. The total score on Saturday
(November 11th) for the women was 111-87 and the final tally for the men
was 112-70.
The women had someone finish in first
in eight of the nine individual events and they won one of the two relays.
Senior Karie
Schuenke (Quincy, IL) and sophomore
Erin
Poynter (Fort Collins, CO) combined with juniors Jie
Li (Gurnee, IL) and Randi
Estes (LaBelle, FL) to win the 400-yard medley relay and all four won
at least one other event as well. Schuenke took first in the 100-yard freestyle
in a time of 58.48; Estes was victorious in both the 200-yard freestyle
(2:03.65) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.62). Poynter was the fastest
in the pool in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:41.70) and the 200-yard
breaststroke (2:44.17). Li touched the wall ahead of everyone in both the
200-yard backstroke (2:14.06) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.19).
Her time in the backstroke was an NCAA Division III "B-cut" qualifying
time for the national meet in March.
The men's team had four multiple-event
winners in the meet as well as they finished in the lead in seven of the
nine individual and one of the two relay races. Freshman Brady
Lowdermilk's (Parker, CO) times of 10:40.88 in the 1,000-yard freestyle
and 2:03.11 in the 200-yard backstroke were tops at the meet. Senior Steve
Williams (Leawood, KS) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.45 and
was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team that finished
in 3:53.03. Two other members of that relay team were freshmen Aaron
Lawlor (Vernon Hills, IL), who placed first in the 200-yard butterfly
(2:14.75) as well, and Joe
Isaacs (Shorewood, MN), who also claimed victory in the both 50-yard
(22.86) and 100-yard (50.42) freestyle events.
The next two meets the Foresters
are going to attend will both be by invite. They will travel to St. Louis,
MO for the Washington University Invitational next weekend (November 17-18th)
and, after taking the Thanksgiving weekend off, they will compete in the
Wheaton Invitational on December 1st and 2nd.
