Forester Women Sweep, Men Split Season-Opening Double Duals
Five Lake Forest swimmers win two individual events each

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams opened the 2008-09 season at home against Ripon College, Carroll University (men only), and St. Norbert College (women only) on Saturday (November 1). The Forester women defeated Ripon 56-44 and St. Norbert 71-26 while the men posted a 44-41 victory over Carroll 44-41 but fell 61-38 to Ripon. It was the first meet for Lake Forest head coach Vadim Tashlitsky.

Senior Jenna Sasanfar (Tonka Bay, Minn./Minnetonka), sophomore Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda), and freshmen Claire Perrott (Northfield, Minn./Colegio San Isidro de Heredia) and Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) started the meet with a winning time of 2:16.01 in the 200-meter medley relay. The men also recorded a victory in the event as sophomore Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick), freshman Alex Tran (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), and juniors Derek Atchley (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) and Taylor Wright (Williams, Calif./Williams) finished in 2:02.94.

Sasanfar followed with a victory in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:48.

Watts won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:24.38 and Mackin touched the wall first in the same event in 2:08.03.

Hales and Wright then claimed victories in the 50-meter freestyle in 30.04 and 25.69 seconds, respectively.

Freshman Jade Perkins (Denver, Colo./JK Mullen) won the 1-meter diving event with 154.10 points and Perrott finished first in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:14.36.

The Foresters swept the 100-meter freestyle with Watts placing first on the women's side in 1:04.75 and Wright winning the men's race in 58.95 seconds.

Lake Forest also swept the 100-meter backstroke where Sasanfar prevailed in 1:15.73 and Mackin triumphed in 1:03.63.

Perrott's victory in the 400-meter freestyle (5:00.33) was the Foresters 14th and final win out of 25 events.

Lake Forest will compete on back-to-back days next weekend (November 7-8). The Foresters will travel to Carthage College for a 6:30 p.m. meet on Friday before hosting Monmouth College at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
