FORESTERS, COACH WEBSTER GET FIRST WIN VERSUS CARTHAGE
In his second meet as Head Swimming and Diving Coach for Lake Forest College, Alec Webster collected both his first men's and women's coaching victory as the Foresters won their first dual meet of the season by defeating Carthage 148-72 in the women's meet and 134-75 on the men's side. After assistant coaching stints for Harvard University and the University of North Carolina, Webster is starting his head coaching career this season at Lake Forest.
The Forester women won 10 of the 11 individual events and both relays at the meet, while the men won 9 of the 11 individual events and split the two relays. The women's team collected one-two finishes six times and the men repeated the feat on four occasions.
Karie Schuenke won both individual events she entered (200 free, 200 back) and led off the Foresters winning 400 medley relay team. Freshman Erin Motzer won the 800 free, placed second to teammate Randi Estes in the 200 fly and led off the winning 400 free relay. Estes swam the third leg of both relays. Senior Kara Esicar won two individual events (50 free and 200 breast) and swam the anchor leg of the 400 medley relay, while Abby Swartz won an individual event (100 free) and a relay event (400 free relay). Divers Dana Tate and Katie Larcher placed one-two in both the one- and three-meter diving.
For the men, senior Rob Edgell won the 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 back and was the only swimmer to win three individual events at the meet. Other event winners for the Foresters included Brandon Johnson in the 800 free, Blake Kotiza in the 50 and 100 free, Brian DesGranges in the one- and three-meter dives, Joe Zemaitis in the 400 free, and the 400 free relay team of Anthony Laurino, Andrew Morgan, Johnson, and Zemaitis.
