Jie Li Named Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week

Jie Li is the MWC's first Swimmer of the Week for the 2000-01 season.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Junior swimmer Jie Li (Gurnee, IL) has been named the Midwest Conference Female Swimmer of the Week for the week of November 13-19th.

Li and the rest of the Foresters swam at the Washington University Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (November 18-19). She was the top individual swimmer at the meet in each of her four events, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 58.64 seconds, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.37, the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.13 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.00. She also led off the 200-yard medley relay that placed third and anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished second.

Her time in the 100-yard backstroke is the fastest in the nation so far this year and automatically qualifies her to swim in the national meet in March. Her time in the 200-yard backstroke is a "B-cut" national qualifying time. Both backstroke times are now both Washington University pool and Lake Forest College school records.

The MWC Sports Information Directors select the league's Swimmers of the Week.
