November 20th, 2000 Contact: Scott Rucker, SID Jie Li Named
Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week
Li and the rest of the Foresters swam at the Washington University Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (November 18-19). She was the top individual swimmer at the meet in each of her four events, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 58.64 seconds, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.37, the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.13 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.00. She also led off the 200-yard medley relay that placed third and anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished second. Her time in the 100-yard backstroke is the fastest in the nation so far this year and automatically qualifies her to swim in the national meet in March. Her time in the 200-yard backstroke is a "B-cut" national qualifying time. Both backstroke times are now both Washington University pool and Lake Forest College school records. The MWC Sports Information Directors select the league's Swimmers of the Week.
