Lake Forest Finishes Third at Thanksgiving Invitational
Koop, Bueter, Swett, and Rezac place first

Aaron Koop won the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday.
ST. LOUIS, MO - The Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams spent the weekend in Millstone Pool on Washington University’s campus. The trip to St Louis was good for the Foresters, who finished third in a field of five teams in both men’s and women’s action. Washington won the meet with 972 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan with 702 points. Lake Forest was third with 692.5, followed by Lindenwood (481.5) and Rhodes (298).

Standout performers for Lake Forest men’s team were junior Aaron Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) and freshman Derek Drayer (Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado). Koop was first in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking 2:24.99. Drayer was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:28.89. Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.89) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:50.63). The relay team of Drayer, Ojdana, Nicholas Primrose (Mayfield Heights, OH/Mayfield) and Jon D’Angelo (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor) finished third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:55.89).

The women’s third-place finish behind the Battling Bishops was a little surprising. The Foresters beat Ohio Wesleyan last year, but faced a much-improved squad this season. Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie) was first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:42.26) and third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.23). Newcomer Lauren Petersen (Arvada, CO/J K Mullen) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.97) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.27).

Lake Forest freshmen divers, Kendall Swett (Akron, OH/Hawken) and Maggie Rezac (Omaha, NE/Marian) were strong on the boards. On the 1-meter board, Rezac’s 351.05 points put her in first place and Swett’s 327.65 placed her second. On the 3-meter, Swett scored 419.10 points to finish first and Rezac totaled 357.65 points to finish second.

Several Foresters clocked lifetime best times over the weekend, which pleased Coach Alex Webster. Even though the Forester men are down in numbers, Coach Webster is optimistic about his team. “Our men are progressing as planned and are where they need to be at this point in the season. Lindenwood is one of the top five teams in the nation in NAIA competition and Washington has strong teams every year.” remarked Coach Webster. “Our women continue to be healthy and improve with each meet. The divers have performed well and I see better results with each competition.”

The Foresters will return to action on December 3 at the Carthage Invite.
