Forester
Swimmers Victorious in Season-Opener Against Lawrence
Revenge is sweet for both
men and women
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake
Forest College swimming and diving team opened its 2000-01 season Saturday
(November 4th) with a dual meet at home against Lawrence University, a
team whose men and women each defeated the Foresters twice last year. In
this year's dual meet, the women from Lake Forest avenged those losses
by a score of 130-101 and the men were victorious over the reigning Midwest
Conference champions 127-92.
The Forester women had the top finisher
in nine of the fourteen events. Junior Randi
Estes (LaBelle, FL) won the 800m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.
Junior Jie
Li (Gurnee, IL) finished first in the 100m backstroke and the 200m
individual medley. Sophomore Dana
Tate (Appleton, WI) was the top diver in the meet off both the 1m and
3m boards. Other event-winners included senior Karie
Schuenke (Quincy, IL) in the 200 freestyle, freshman Celeste
Plautz (Downers Grove, IL) in the 400 freestyle and sophomore Erin
Poynter (Fort Collins, CO), who joined Li, Estes and Schuenke on the
winning 200m medley relay team.
The Forester men were victorious
in seven of the thirteen events contested, including both the relays. Sophomores
Anthony
Laurino (Wichita, KS), Andrew Morgan (Libertyville, IL) and Brandon
Johnson (Phoenix, AZ) joined freshman Aaron
Lawlor (Vernon Hills, IL) on the winning 200m freestyle relay. The
fastest 200m medley relay team was made up of a senior, Steve
Williams (Leawood, KS), and the freshman trio of Lawlor, Brady
Lowdermilk (Parker, CO), and Joe
Isaacs (Shorewood, MN). Isaacs also won the 50m and 100m freestyle
races and Laurino, Lowdermilk and Williams were the fastest swimmers in
the 800m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke, respectively.
The swim teams will be in action
again next Saturday (November 11th) when they travel to Kenosha, WI to
face Carthage College in another dual meet, starting at 11:00 AM.
