Inducted 1976 Growing up in Highland Park, Illinois, Thomas attended Deerfield Shields High School. While at Lake Forest, he earned four letters in football and three in track. He was selected as an All-Conference halfback on the Wisconsin-Illinois College Conference Team. Thomas [a member of Digamma Alpha Upsilon] was also captain of the track team and set the Lake Forest records in the javelin and broad jump during his senior year. After graduating with a degree in history in 1931, Thomas became a salesman for the Peoples Water and Gas Company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and then served for three years in the weather wing of the Army Air Forces. He finally settled in North Palm Beach, Florida and became General Sales Manager for the Florida Public Utilities Company. Thomas continued to be active in golf and captured the J.D.M.Country Club Seniors Championship in 1975 and National Senior Sports Association Low Gross and Low Net Golf Tournaments at Sebring, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1981.
