up in Medfield, Massachussettes, Tom attended Milton Academy where he played
baseball, football, hockey and track.
He entered Lake Forest in 1966 and went on to earn four varsity letters in both football and hockey. He served as captain of the football team in his sophomore and junior years and captained the hockey team his final two seasons. Graduating with a government degree, Tom served as an officer in U.S. Marine Corps. After his service, he spent time doing pro bono work for various public organizations and institutions. He then went to work for Hill, Holliday Advertising in Boston and was eventually promoted to senior vice president, co-director of account management and director of human resources for the agency.
