Repeat Sweep: Frantz and Pier Honored by Midwest Conference
Frantz named Player of the Year and Pier selected Coach of the Year

LAKE FOREST, IL - For the third time in the last four years, Lake Forest College has not only won the Midwest Conference volleyball championship, but swept the MWC Player and Coach of the Year awards. And for the second straight year, Sarah Frantz (Lake Geneva, WI/Badger) and Head Coach Beth Pier have been the honorees.

Frantz, a senior setter, holds school records for assists in a career (4,299), season (1,204 in 1999), four-game match (68 versus St. Norbert in 2000), and five-game match (74 versus Chadron State in 1997). She also has school marks for career aces (212) and games played (386). She ranks third all-time for career digs. In 1999, she recorded the highest single-season ace total (66) in school history.

This season, Frantz led the Foresters with 1,132 assists and 48 aces on the season. Frantz added 196 digs (fourth on the squad) and 10 total blocks (zero solo, 10 assists). She appeared in a team-high 95 games.

Pier led Lake Forest to a 23-6 overall record this season. The 79.3% winning percentage is the highest in school history, supplanting the 1988 team that finished with a school-record 27 wins (versus eight losses) and a 77.1% winning percentage. Pier, the all-time winningest volleyball coach at Lake Forest, has compiled a 128-60 career record in seven seasons with the Foresters. She has guided the squad to the first three MWC titles (1997, 1999, and 2000) in school history and the first two NCAA Tournament appearances (1999 and 2000) in LF history.
