Foresters Win Three of Four, Place Second in 12-Team Tourney
Stephanie Metzger Named to All-Tournament Team

BLOOMINGTON, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team traveled to Bloomington, IL, for the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic Tournament and may have turned their season around while they were there. Having lost four matches in a row and five of six on the season before this weekend, the Foresters won twice on Friday (September 14th) and split their two matches on Saturday (September 15th) to take second place in the tournament.

The first match of the weekend was against host Illinois Wesleyan, who had beaten Lake Forest in three games just six days earlier. After falling in the first game, 30-22, the Foresters rallied to win the next three by scores of 30-26, 30-21 and 30-25 to take the match. Senior Leslie Boyle (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) saw her first action of the season at setter and tallied 51 assists. Sophomore Stephanie Metzger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) led the team with 18 kills. Senior Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic) added 14 kills and 16 digs in the match.

In Friday's second match, the Foresters defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College in three games (30-24, 30-25, 30-27). Lake Forest used all three of their setters and sophomore Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) recorded team-highs in kills (12), aces (2) and digs (19). Metzger added 10 more kills.

Lake Forest opened play Saturday against Lakeland College, who was also 2-0 so far in the tournament. The Foresters took the match in three games (30-27, 30-24, 30-25) to make it three in a row on the weekend. Anderson was again the team leader in kills with 18. Metzger again reached double-figures in kills with 10. Boyle served up three service aces, led the team in digs with 13 and added 37 assists.

The Foresters final foe of the tournament was another familiar one, Benedictine University. Lake Forest and Benedictine faced off just 10 days earlier in Lake Forest with Benedictine taking the match three games to one. The result was much the same on Saturday with the tournament champion Eagles winning this match in the same number of games (30-27, 30-21, 27-30, 30-27). Reinboldt (13) and Metzger (12) were the team leaders in kills and Boyle finished the match with 45 assists.

Following play on Saturday, Metzger was named to the All-Tournament Team. On the weekend she led the Foresters with 50 kills and added 40 digs. Boyle tallied 149 assists and 40 digs. Anderson had 47 kills, 49 digs and 11 service aces. Reinboldt recorded 39 kills, 38 digs and 10 blocks.

Lake Forest will be in action next on Thursday (September 20th) at 7:30 pm when they play at Judson College. Their next home match will be on October 24th at 7:00 pm when they play the rescheduled match against UW-Whitewater, originally to have taken place this past Tuesday (September 11th).
