Lake Forest Wins One of Three Matches at Thunder Classic
Team defeats Aurora, falls to Hope and Benedictine

WHEATON, IL - The Forester volleyball team posted a 1-2 record and placed fifth in the Thunder Classic at Wheaton College Saturday (September 18). Lake Forest’s record fell to 6-5 on the season. Hope was 3-0 and both Wheaton and Beloit College were 2-1. Benedictine (1-2) finished fourth and Aurora (0-3) placed sixth.

Freshman Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) was the Foresters’ top hitter on the day. She had four blocks and a career-high 16 kills in the match against Hope. Sophomore Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/ Westosha Central) was next with 14 kills and classmate Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) had 10. Senior Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) led the team with 21 digs and Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) tallied 48 assists.

Baich pounded out 14 more kills and added three blocks in the victory over Aurora. Amy Krueger and junior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) each had 17 digs and Balcerzak added three aces. Sophomore Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) recorded 31 assists.

Balcerzak led the team with eight kills against Benedictine. Other team-highs including Baich’s six blocks, Miller’s 14 digs, and Casey’s 16 assists.

Lake Forest will travel to UW-Whitewater, the nation’s #8 team (American Volleyball Coaches Association), Tuesday (September 21) night for a 7:00 match. The Foresters will host the University of Dubuque at the same time on Thursday (September 23) and take on the five Midwest Conference North Division teams this weekend (September 25-26) in the MWC Crossover at Beloit College.
