Foresters Claim Forester Invitational Crown, Extend Winning Streak to Six

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team won three times Saturday (October 5) to claim the 2002 Forester Invitational championship. After defeating Dominican University (30-22, 30-17, 30-23) and North Park University (30-28, 36-34, 24-30, 30-22) in pool play, the hosts knocked off Coe College (30-24, 29-31, 30-23, 30-22) in the Championship Game. Lake Forest has won its own tourney each of the last three years, six times during head coach Beth Pier's tenure (1994-present), and nine times in the 19-year history of the event.

Dominican won two of its three matches and defeated the University of Chicago in the third-place match. North Park collected its only victory on the day against Beloit College in the fifth-place match.

Each school had one player voted to the All-Tournament Team by the participating head coaches. Jenna Harper (St. Louis, MO/Clayton) was the Foresters' representative. The junior tallied 28 kills on the day with just seven errors in 65 attempts (.323 hitting percentage). She also added five aces and eight blocks, raising her season total to 69, tops on the team.

Leading Lake Forest with 30 kills on the day was Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino). The junior co-captain also added 32 digs and a team-high eight aces. Fellow junior co-captain Stephanie Metzger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) also turned in a quality performance, recording 26 kills (.299 hitting pct.), seven aces, seven blocks and a team-high 39 digs.

Sophomore setters Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) and DeAnna Bauer (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) combined for 107 assists and each added five aces in the tournament. Seven different players reached double-figures in kills, eight had at least three aces, and seven recorded at least 10 digs. Sophomore Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) joined Anderson, Metzger, and Bauer on each of those lists. Senior Kelly
