SLAATS NAMED STATE OF ILLINOIS COACH OF THE YEAR

Lake Forest College Head Women's Basketball Coach Jackie Slaats has been the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Co-Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA). It was the second time in her coaching career that she has been bestowed the honor. Slaats was also honored in 1992.

This season, Slaats guided the Foresters to a 21-4 overall mark, which tied a school record for wins in a season, and the Midwest Conference Championship, the school's third such title and first since 1994. It also marked the third consecutive 20-win season for Lake Forest. By winning the MWC title, the Foresters earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the second time in school history.

The IBCA award was the second Coach of the Year honor for Slaats this year. Earlier, she was named the 1999-2000 MWC Coach of the Year.

During Slaats's 14-year tenure at Lake Forest, she has guided the Foresters to a 237-84 overall record, good for a 73% winning percentage, which ranks her 22nd among active NCAA Division III women's basketball coaches for winning percentage.
