MONMOUTH, IL - The Forester women’s basketball team recorded an 82-58 triumph at Monmouth College Saturday (December 4) in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. Lake Forest is now 3-2 overall this season and the Fighting Scots fell to 0-4.

Senior guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) was perfect from the floor for the second straight game. She made each of her six field goal attempts, including five from three-point range, and tied for game-high honors with 17 points. She also led the team with four assists. Freeman has made 13 consecutive three-point field goal attempts, tying the NCAA Division III record. She is now shooting 65.5% (19 for 29) from beyond the arc this season.

Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic), another senior guard, also scored 17 points in the contest. She shot 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line. Sophomore forward Ashley Matthias (Barneveld, WI/Mount Horeb) also reached double figures with 10 points and added three steals. Junior guard Devon Liebl (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) scored nine points, pulled down five rebounds, and led all players with four steals. Senior forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) scored eight points and led the squad with six boards.

Lake Forest shot 52.5% from the field and, for the second straight game, matched the second-highest total in program history with 10 three-pointers. The Foresters’ 62.5% shooting from beyond the arc is the second-best percentage in school history behind Tuesday’s 10-for-14 (71.4%) performance. The visitors also out-rebounded the Scots 36-31 and committed 17 turnovers while forcing 24 Monmouth miscues.

The Foresters scored the game’s first 12 points. The home team cut the margin to three-points (15-12) with 13:30 remaining in the opening period but would get no closer. Lake Forest outscored Monmouth 27-10 during the rest of the half and led 42-22 at intermission.

The margin was at least 20 for all but 30 seconds of the second half. The Foresters led by as many as 28 points early in the period and 29 late before the Scots scored the game’s final five points.

Lake Forest will play at Wheaton College at 7:00 Tuesday (December 7) night in the team’s final contest of the fall semester.
