WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Forester women's basketball team suffered a pair of Midwest Conference losses on the road over the weekend (December 5-6). Lake Forest fell 65-56 at defending league champion St. Norbert College Friday night and 83-79 at Carroll University on Saturday. The Foresters are now 3-3 overall this season and 0-2 in MWC play. St. Norbert raised its overall record to 3-2 and league mark to 1-0 and Carroll is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Lake Forest junior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds on Friday. She shot 6-for-10 from the field, made both of her three-point field goal attempts, and knocked down three of four free throws. Sophomore guard Kelsey James (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) scored six points and dished out a game-high four assists.

The Foresters were out-shot 45.3 percent to 30.5 percent from the field. Both teams attempted 14 three-pointers with St. Norbert connecting five times and the visitors three. Lake Forest made 17 of 20 foul shots while the home team shot 12-for-23 from the line. The Green Knights finished the contest with one more rebound (41-40) and two more turnovers (19-17) than their guests.

St. Norbert scored the game's first four points and never trailed in the contest. The lead reached as many as 13 points late in the opening period and the Green Knights led 29-20 at halftime.

Lake Forest scored the first four points of the second half before the home team rattled off seven in a row to take a 36-24 lead with 15 minutes to play. The Foresters outscored St. Norbert 15-3 over the next seven-and-a-half minutes to tie the game at 39. The Green Knights responded with a 14-2 run to regain the lead and the visitors were unable to come back again.

Junior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led Lake Forest on Saturday with 35 points, the fifth-highest single-game total in team history. Her 15-for-16 shooting performance set a single-game school record for field goal percentage (.938), erasing the previous mark of .909 (10-for-11) set by Katie McCants in January of 2001. Nassin was also 5-for-7 from the foul line and added three blocked shots in just 20 minutes on the court. Junior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was next on the squad with 16 points. She also led all players in the contest with nine rebounds and shared game-high honors for assists (five) with James, who added eight points.

The Foresters shot a season-high 55.9 percent from the field, 3-for-14 from three-point range, and 10-for-14 from the foul line. Carroll was 43.8 percent from the floor, 4-for-17 from beyond the arc, and 15-for-20 on free throws. Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 39-33 but committed 29 turnovers while forcing just 18.

The visitors led by as many as nine points (18-9) early in the game. Carroll battled back and the score was tied at 33 before the Lady Pioneers closed out the first half with a 19-4 run to take a 52-37 lead at intermission.

The lead reached 21 points twice early in the second half before the Foresters outscored the home team 27-9 over an eight-minute span and trailed 71-68 with more than six minutes left. Carroll scored the game's next four points but Lake Forest pulled back to within three (77-74) with slightly more than two minutes remaining. The visitors would get no closer, however, as the teams traded scores the rest of the way.

Lake Forest will host a non-conference game against Millikin University Tuesday night (December 9) at 7:00. Visit midwestconference.tv for a free live video webcast of that contest and all Forester home and Midwest Conference road games this season.
