KENOSHA, WI - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 60-54 at Carthage College Tuesday (December 9) night. The Foresters are now 5-3 on the season while the Lady Reds improved their record to 3-2.

Junior forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld), the team's leader in both scoring and rebounding on the season, paced the squad with 15 points and a game-high nine boards. She was 7-for-10 from the field in the game, slightly better than her .631 field goal percentage so far this season.

With 13 points, junior guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) reached double figures in scoring for the seventh time in eight games. Fellow guards Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) and Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) tied for the team-lead with four assists each.

Lake Forest, which entered the game with a .441 field goal percentage on the year, shot just 40% against Carthage. The Foresters held the home team to 37.7% shooting and matched the Lady Reds' 36 rebounds. The main statistical difference between the teams came at the free throw line, where Lake Forest shot just 4-for-11 while Carthage was 14-for-15.

The Foresters jumped out to the early lead and was ahead 18-10 with 13 minutes left in the first half. Carthage, however, outscored the visitors 24-6 over the next 10 minutes. Green scored the only two points for either team in the last three minutes and 12 seconds of the period and Carthage led 34-26 at intermission.

The difference fluctuated between four and ten points until a 12-3 Carthage run gave the Lady Reds a 17-point edge (56-39) with 3:43 remaining. Lake Forest outscored Carthage 12-2 in the final two minutes of the game but ran out of time.

The Foresters will not play again until Sunday, January 4, when the team will host the University of Chicago at 2:00 p.m. The final 14 games on Lake Forest's schedule will be against fellow Midwest Conference schools, beginning with a home game on Wednesday, January 7, against Monmouth College.
