GRINNELL, IA - For the second time in three years, the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament for women's basketball will be hosted by Lake Forest College. The Foresters defeated Grinnell College on Saturday (February 10th) 66-47, giving them an overall record of 16-4 and a conference mark of 13-1. Ripon College is two games back with two to play and, through a series of tiebreakers, Lake Forest would hold the edge even if the teams end up with the same record. The regular season leader owns the right to host league tournament which determines the conference champion and the MWC's representative in the NCAA Tournament.

Senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) was the game's leading scorer with 22 points. She also matched her career-high with 9 rebounds and added 4 assists and 3 steals.

Senior forward Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) scored just 4 points but led the team with 11 rebounds (6 offensive), 5 assists and 4 steals. Sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) added 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field.

Lake Forest continued to shoot well from the line, making 18 of 25 free throw attempts compared to just 5-of-14 for Grinnell. For the season, the Foresters have shot 69.9% from the charity stripe while their opponents have made just 61.9% of their free throws. When these two teams met in Lake Forest on December 2nd, Grinnell out-rebounded the Foresters 56-45. Since then, Lake Forest has pulled down more boards than 14 consecutive opponents, including Grinnell this time by a 47-34 margin.

The first half featured a series of runs by both teams. Grinnell took an early 6-1 lead before Lake Forest scored eight straight points. With the Foresters ahead 15-10, Grinnell went on a 9-0 run to take a four-point lead. The score was tied at 19, 21, 23 and 24 before the Foresters scored eight of the period's last ten points and went into the locker room with a 32-26 lead. Lake Forest out-scored the home team 11-2 over the first five minutes of the second half and kept the lead at 12 or more the rest of the way.

The Foresters will play their final two regular season games at home this week when they host Illinois College on Wednesday (February 14th) at 5:30 PM and Knox College on Saturday (February 17th) at 4:00 PM. Carroll College, Ripon College and St. Norbert College will come to Lake Forest for the MWC Championship Tournament on February 23-24th.
