Baich records fourth double-double of the year

Baich had 10+ rebounds for the seventh time this year.
MONMOUTH, IL - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team dropped a 65-63 decision at Monmouth College Saturday (February 11) afternoon. The loss drops the Foresters’ overall record on the year to 13-9 and Midwest Conference mark to 7-8. The Fighting Scots are now 10-12 overall and also 7-8 in the league.

Senior guard Devon Liebl (Brookfield, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) led the visitors with 15 points. She also added five rebounds and a team-high four steals. Sophomore center Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) scored 13 points and completed her fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Junior forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) chipped in with 11 points and junior guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) led the squad with four assists.

Both teams shot approximately 35% from the floor. The Foresters were also 5-for-19 from three-point range but made just eight of 16 free throws. The Scots attempted only four three-pointers and made one. The home team, however, knocked down 28 of 36 shots from the foul line. Monmouth’s 49-41 edge in rebounding helped make up for committing 22 turnovers while forcing just 15 Lake Forest miscues.

The Scots jumped out to a 17-6 lead after nine minutes of play. The Foresters gradually closed the gap to just four (27-23) at halftime.

Lake Forest tied the game at 27 early in the second half and took their first lead of the contest (40-39) with 11:22 remaining. The lead changed hands three times in the next few minutes before the home team pulled out to a 51-47 lead with just over six minutes to play. The Foresters tied the score at 51 and a three-point play by Baich gave the visitors a 54-53 advantage with 2:47 left on the clock. Monmouth outscored its guests 8-1 over the next two-and-a-half minutes and knocked down all six of its free throw attempts in the closing seconds to secure the victory.

The Foresters will close out the season at home against Grinnell College next Saturday (February 18). Tip-off on the program’s annual Alumni Day and Senior Day is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
