Senior guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) led all scorers with 14 points. She shot 5-for-10 from the field with two three-pointers, bringing her season total to 56, just four shy of the single-season school record. Junior guard Devon Liebl (Milwaukee WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) and freshman forward/center Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) each scored 12 points and combined for 10 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) contributed seven points, a steal, an assist, and no turnovers in 20 minutes of play.
The Foresters shot 36.8% from the field and 9-of-18 at the foul line. The Fighting Scots shot 30.0% from the floor and 58.3% from the free throw line. Lake Forest out-rebounded Monmouth 50-41 and forced 25 turnovers while committing just 17.
Baich scored first for Lake Forest to kick off a 7-0 run to start the game. The Foresters led by as many as nine in the first half and were up by six (33-27) at intermission. The Scots fought back and tied the score (40-40) with 11:12 left in the game but were unable to take the lead away from the home team.
The Foresters will host Illinois College on Wednesday (February 16) at 5:30 p.m. A win over the Lady Blues would clinch a spot for Lake Forest in the four-team Midwest Conference Championship Tournament, played on February 25-26. The Foresters will close out the regular season at Grinnell College next Saturday (February 16) afternoon.
