LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women's basketball team hosted and defeated Knox College 83-53 on Saturday (February 14). Lake Forest raised its overall record to 11-10 and Midwest Conference mark to 8-6. The Prairie Fire fell to 6-16 overall and 3-12 in league play.

Lake Forest junior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) tied for game-high honors with 14 points and four assists apiece. They combined to shoot 11-for-16 from the field and Schmidt added nine rebounds. Senior forward Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) was next on the team with a dozen points and chipped in with three assists and four steals. Junior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) scored 11 points and led all players in the contest with 12 rebounds. It was her third double-double of the year and second in the last three games.

The Foresters shot 52.6 percent from the field, the fourth time this season they connected on at least half of their field goal attempts. Lake Forest was also 4-for-11 from three-point range and 19-for-29 from the foul line. Knox was held to 34 percent shooting from the floor and made just two of nine shots from beyond the arc and 17 of 21 free throws. The home team held a commanding 49-18 edge in rebounds but committed 23 turnovers while forcing 21.

Knox made the game's first basket but never led again. The Foresters scored the next six points and extended the lead to double figures (18-7) eight minutes into the contest. The Prairie Fire trimmed the margin to eight points twice in the next minute before an 8-0 Lake Forest run put the home team ahead by 16. A 12-0 run by the home team later in the period extended the lead to 27 and the score was 46-26 at halftime.

The lead reached the 30s on a layup by Nassin with 13:54 to play and remained there the rest of the game.

It was Lake Forest's Senior Day and Cretacci and guard Susan Hedrick (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) were honored before the contest.

The Foresters enter the final week of the season tied with Carroll University and Monmouth College for fourth in the conference standings. The top four teams in the league advance to the MWC Tournament. Lake Forest will host Monmouth Wednesday evening (February 18) at 5:30.
