LAKE FOREST, IL - With a convincing 74-41 victory at home Saturday (February 17th) afternoon over Knox College, the Forester women's basketball team made sure it entered post-season play on a roll. Lake Forest, who will host the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament next Friday and Saturday (February 23-24th), has won five straight games and 17 of their last 18 to finish the regular season with an 18-4 overall record and a 15-1 mark in the MWC.

Senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) led the Foresters in scoring with an efficient 25 points. The MWC's leading scorer (21.0 ppg) and free throw shooter (84.8%) made 5 of 7 field goal attempts, shot 4-for-5 from three-point range and 11-for-12 from the free throw line. She added 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

With 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) recorded her second and the team's fourth double-double of the season. McCants also added 2 assists and 3 steals and shot 5-for-11 from the field, finishing the regular season ranked second in the MWC in field goal percentage at 56.1%.

Reserve junior guard Aja Brown (Lake Villa, IL/Antioch) made both of her field goal attempts and shot 5-for-7 from the free throw line to account for her career-high 9 points. Because of the lopsided score, all 15 Foresters played, 12 scored, 14 had at least one rebound, 10 dished out at least one assist and 7 recorded at least one steal.

The MWC's top team during the regular season also finished first in scoring offense (76.8 ppg) and defense (54.8 ppg), free throw percentage (70.9%) and field goal percentage (44.4%). On Saturday the Foresters shot only 37.9% from the field but held Knox to just 26.8%. Lake Forest made 24 of 34 free throws (70.6%) and out-rebounded the visitors 54-34.

After a 5-5 start, the Foresters used runs of 7 and 12 straight points to outscore Knox 21-4 over an 11-minute span. By halftime Lake Forest had opened up a 37-18 lead. The second half was much of the same as the Foresters' reserves gradually built up the lead to the final 33-point difference.

On Friday (February 23rd), Ripon College and Carroll College will play in the 5:00 PM semi-final and Lake Forest will take on St. Norbert College in the 7:00 PM semi-final. On Saturday (February 24th), Friday's winners will play for the Midwest Conference Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Foresters record this season against the other three tournament teams is 4-1, having swept St. Norbert, split with Ripon and defeated Carroll in the teams' only match-up.
