Home Loss to Ripon Ends Foresters' Win Streak at 12 Games
MWC lead down to one game

Alison Grubbs has led the team in scoring five straight games.
LAKE FOREST, IL - While a 13-4 overall record and a 10-1 mark in the Midwest Conference is nothing to be disappointed about, the Lake Forest College women's basketball team would have loved to pull out a victory at home against second-place Ripon College Friday (February 2nd) night. Instead, the 67-57 loss narrows the Foresters' MWC lead to one game over Ripon with five games left on the league schedule.

Lake Forest was led in scoring for the fifth consecutive game by senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point), who contributed 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Fellow senior guard Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) was the only other Forester in double figures with 10 points. Another senior, forward Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego), scored 8 points and pulled down a game-high 7 rebounds.

Lake Forest was victimized by a career-high 32 points from Ripon's Karin Kedrowski. Kedrowski made 11 of 15 field goals, 4 of 5 three-pointers and all 6 of her free throws in the victory.

The Foresters shot just 38.5% from the floor, while Ripon made 48.9% of their shots, including 6 of 11 from behind the three-point arc. The most glaring discrepancy between the two teams came from the free throw line, where Ripon made 17 of 21 and Lake Forest shot and made just two.

Ripon took the early lead by scoring the game's first nine points. Lake Forest battled back and led 19-15 before Ripon closed the fist half with a 15-4 run to take a 30-23 halftime lead. The Foresters scored the first four points of the second half but could get no closer. The Redhawks led by as many as 12 points on three separate occasions and eventually won the game by 10.

A number of Forester winning streaks ended with the loss, including their overall 12-game winning streak, the fifth-longest current streak in Division III. The Foresters also had a five-game home winning streak, a 16-game winning streak against MWC opponents and had not lost a regular-season league game at home since the 1996-97 season.

Lake Forest has no time for grieving, as they travel to Beloit College tomorrow (February 3rd) for a 3:00 PM tip-off. A win against Beloit would clinch a spot for the Foresters in the four-team MWC Championship Tournament on February 23-24th.
