Lake Forest Runs MWC Mark to 8-2 with Victory over Knox

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women’s basketball team hosted and defeated Knox College 86-37 on Saturday (February 2), raising its overall record to 14-3 and Midwest Conference mark to 8-2. The Prairie Fire fell to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in league play.

Lake Forest sophomore forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) led the team in scoring with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. She also pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists, and blocked a shot. Senior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) was next with 15 points and led the squad with 10 rebounds. She shot 6-for-8 from the field during her third double-double of the season and the 13th of her career. Sophomore center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) also reached double figures with 10 points and she blocked a pair of shots. Senior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) scored nine points and led all players in the game with five assists and five steals.

The Foresters shot 50.7 percent from the floor, 5-for-18 from three-point range, and 9-for 16 from the free throw line. Knox was limited to a .292 field goal percentage and made just one of 11 attempts from beyond the arc and eight of 11 from the foul line. Lake Forest held a commanding 52-24 edge in rebounds and committed 21 turnovers while forcing Knox into 31 miscues.

The home team scored the game’s first seven points and, after a Knox basket, rattled off 19 in a row to take a 26-2 lead midway through the first half. Lake Forest extended the margin to 30 points with six minutes remaining in the period and led 51-20 at intermission.

The difference grew to 40 points midway through the second half and topped out at 49 three times late in the game.

After four consecutive home games, Lake Forest will travel to Wisconsin for a pair of league games next weekend (February 8-9). The Foresters will play at Beloit College Friday evening at 5:30 and at Lawrence University at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
