Durante and Baich Named First Team All-MWC, Slaats Coach of the Year
Foresters were 15-1 in league play and claimed conference title on Saturday

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The 2006-07 All-Midwest Conference Women’s Basketball Teams were released Monday (February 26) and Lake Forest College’s Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) and Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) earned First Team honors. In addition, the Foresters’ Jackie Slaats was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Durante, a senior who plays both guard and forward, leads Lake Forest in scoring with 12.8 points per game. She also averages 4.2 rebounds per contest and has tallied 34 assists, 33 steals, and 11 blocked shots in 24 games this season. She was a a Second Team All-MWC selection last year.

Baich, a junior center, is second on the team with 10.5 points per game and leads the squad with 7.2 rebounds per contest, a .528 field goal percentage, and 18 blocked shots. She is also second on the squad with 48 steals and has dished out 33 assists in 24 games. She also earned First Team All-MWC honors in volleyball in the fall.

Jackie Slaats
The Coach of the Year honor went to Slaats for the sixth time in the last 10 years. She first earned the honor for the league’s North Division in the final year of divisional play in 1998. She then received the award three years in a row from 2000-02 and was named Co-Coach of the Year in 2005.

Slaats has led the team to a 23-2 overall record so far this season and Lake Forest will host NCAA Tournament first and second round games this weekend (March 2-3). The team won all but one of its 16 conference games and claimed the program’s sixth league title on Saturday (February 24) by defeating Carroll College 64-56 in the MWC Championship Game. The Foresters have won a school record 17 straight games and are now ranked 14th in the nation by D3hoops.com.
