LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women's basketball team just could not get anything to go right in the final few minutes Wednesday (February 28th) night in their NCAA Tournament first round game at home against Ohio Wesleyan University. The Battling Bishops defeated Lake Forest by a score of 67-55. The loss ends the Foresters' season with an impressive 20-5 record. Ohio Wesleyan moves to 22-6 on the year and will play at Hope College in a second round game on Saturday (March 3rd).

Lake Forest senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) led all scorers with 22 points. Grubbs shot 7-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. Her backcourt mate, junior Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West), dropped in 9 points on 3-for-6 shooting, all behind the three-point arc. The Foresters were led in rebounding by senior forward Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego), who pulled down 10 boards.

The Bishops' high scorers were senior Jessica Viertlboeck and junior Katy Sturtz, who contributed 21 and 18 points, respectively. Viertlboeck added 10 rebounds, four assists and 3 steals while Sturtz chipped in 6 rebounds and a game-high 7 steals. Senior Leslie Welsh also scored in double-figures for Ohio Wesleyan with 10 points.

Lake Forest held the rebound edge 41-31 but turned the ball over 28 times to the Bishops' 15. Ohio Wesleyan collected 20 steals and out-shot the Foresters 44.3% to 37.0%.

Lake Forest used a 9-0 run in the first half to build a 10-point lead (28-18) and went into the locker room ahead 34-26. The home team's lead was still eight points with less than 13 minutes to go before Ohio Wesleyan scored eight straight to tie the game at 47. It was tied again at 49, 51 and 53 before the Bishops out-scored the Foresters 14-2 over the game's final four minutes, shooting 8-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Lake Forest graduates three of their starters but return an All-Midwest Conference player and four others who saw at least 11 minutes of action per game. Grubbs, Magee and fellow senior Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) finish their careers with a school record 81 wins against just 16 losses (.835).
