Win at Beloit
Senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) led the team in scoring for the sixth consecutive game, despite playing only 14 minutes. Her game-high 21 points came on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from three-point range, and 3-for-3 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) made all five of her field goal attempts and both of her free throws to account for her 12 points in just eight minutes of play. Many of the minutes made available by Grubbs and McCants sitting on the bench with the Foresters ahead were taken up by two freshmen, guard Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/Logan) and forward Hayley O'Donnell (McFarland, WI/McFarland). Jennings responded with a career-high 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor and O'Donnell scored 11 points and added a career and game-high 11 rebounds. Lake Forest made 37 of 65 field goal attempts to shoot 56.9% as a team, its highest field goal percentage this season. The starting five of Grubbs, McCants, junior guard Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West), senior guard Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) and senior forward Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) combined to shoot 17-for-25 from the floor (68.0%), including 7-for-10 from behind the three-point arc. Lake Forest's defense held Beloit to 41.9% field goal shooting and forced them into 31 turnovers. The Foresters need just two more wins in their final four games to clinch first place in the league for the regular season and the right to host the four-team conference championship tournament, played February 23-24th. The Foresters will take on Monmouth College at home on Wednesday (February 7th) at 6:30 PM and will travel to Grinnell College next Saturday (February 10th).
