Foresters Defeat Beloit and Lawrence to Extend Winning Streak to 11 Games
Team one win shy of longest run in program’s history

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team swept a pair of Midwest Conference home games over the weekend (February 2-3), defeating Beloit College 59-48 Friday night and Lawrence University 57-53 Saturday afternoon. The Foresters, who entered the weekend ranked 21st in the nation, are now 17-2 overall and 11-1 in league play with an 11-game winning streak.

Junior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led Lake Forest with 15 points and eight rebounds against Beloit. She also added three steals. Senior guard/forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) scored a dozen points and chipped in with four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals. Senior guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) dished out a team-high five assists and joined Baich, junior guard Eileen Walsh (Hickory Hills, Ill./Amos Alonzo Stagg), and freshman center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) with three steals.

Both teams shot approximately 40 percent from the field. Lake Forest also made just one of seven three-pointers and eight of 24 free throws. Beloit shot 3-for-12 from beyond the arc and 7-for-9 from the foul line. The Foresters were out-rebounded 37-35 but committed just 14 turnovers while forcing 31.

Lake Forest took a 20-4 lead early but went into the locker room at halftime ahead by just nine (34-25). The teams alternated baskets for the first 11 minutes of the second half and the difference fluctuated between eight and 13 points for the rest of the game.

Senior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) led the Foresters with 13 points against Lawrence as they avenged their only league loss of the year. Baich scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Bauer added 10 points and matched a career-high with six steals.

Lawrence shot 40 percent from the field while Lake Forest shot just 31 percent. The Foresters were also just 2-for-12 from three-point range but knocked down 29 of 36 free throws, including 13 in a row late in the game. The Vikings missed each of their four attempts from long range and shot 13-for-20 from the line. Lake Forest held a slight 34-33 edge in rebounds and committed 21 of the game’s 45 turnovers.

Lawrence scored the contest’s first seven points and led by as many as nine in the first half. A 10-0 Forester run gave the home team a brief lead and the game was tied 23-23 at halftime. The Vikings rattled off 12 straight points to start the second half but Lake Forest responded with eight in a row. The Foresters continued to chip away at the lead, tied the score at 46 with 4:47 to play, and took their first lead of the half with 4:09 left. After four ties and four lead changes in the next two minutes, the home team held their guests to just one point over the final two-plus minutes of the game to preserve the victory.

Lake Forest will host Illinois College Tuesday (February 6) evening at 5:30.
