LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s basketball team fell to 10-9 overall and 7-5 in Midwest Conference play with a pair of league losses at home over the weekend (February 4-5). Lake Forest fell 51-44 to Carroll College on Friday and 64-56 to St. Norbert College on Saturday.

Junior guard Devon Liebl (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) led the Foresters with 13 points against Carroll. She also pulled down 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Senior guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) was next on the team with 10 points. The Foresters shot 27.7% from the field, made four of 17 attempts from three-point range, and knocked down just four of a dozen free throws. The Lady Pioneers shot 39.2% from the floor in the game, hit one three-pointer in eight tries, and shot 10-of-17 from the foul line. Carroll’s 47-40 edge in rebounds helped make up for its 20 turnovers. Lake Forest committed just 12 miscues.

Carroll scored its first basket just 14 seconds into the game, led by as many as nine points four times in the opening period, and held a 22-14 advantage at halftime. The deficit for the Foresters grew to as many as 15 points (36-21) in the second half but was cut to just four (46-42) with 1:08 to play. Lake Forest would get no closer, however, and was outscored 5-2 the rest of the way.

Baich scored a career-high 18 points in her first start as a Forester on Saturday. She shot 6-for-10 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Liebl scored 13 points again and added five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals. Freeman knocked down three three-pointers and scored 11 points. Sophomore guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) had eight points, four assists, and four steals.

At 40.8% from the field, 3-of-12 from beyond the arc, and 13-of-17 from the foul line, Lake Forest shot significantly better than the night before. St. Norbert was 50% from the floor, 5-of-11 from long-range, and 9-of-13 from the line. Rebounds were 29-29 and the Foresters had four more turnovers (25-21).

Freeman connected from three-point range to start the contest but the Green Knights scored the game’s next 14 points. The Foresters pulled to within three (25-22) late in the opening period but the visitors scored the final seven points of the half. Lake Forest trailed by as many as 11 in the second half before cutting the lead to 51-49 with 6:23 to play. A 9-0 St. Norbert run, however, put the game out of reach.

The Foresters’ next contest will be Wednesday (February 9) evening at 5:30 at Knox College.
